Turkey Burgers & Easy Coleslaw

on

Today’s episode of Delicious Food 101 is brought to you by El Gastronomo and Friar Tyst, the experts on fried and gourmet foods. Oh, and me, The Chef, of course. I give you, turkey burgers! This delicious and fairly simple dish has been loved by men and boys for generations (okay, girls too).  Who knew that the slimy, intestine resembling substance known as ground turkey could produce such amazing results? But first, we must learn how to make it!

Turkey Burgers by El Gastronomo: 10 oz. ground turkey, 3 slices whole wheat bread, 1 egg, 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1 tsp. cumin, 1/2 tsp. black pepper, 1/4 to 1/2 cup olive oil. Using your hands, shred the bread slices until they resemble large breadcrumbs. Mix together all of the ingredients in a large bowl until combined. Form into patties and fry in a large skillet on high heat until the meat is browned through (no pink spots in the middle). Serve warm with spicy mustard. Makes 10-12 small burgers.

Coleslaw, a southern staple, loved by young and old alike. I have recently patented my own version of Southern Style Coleslaw, and believe me, it couldn’t be any easier or any more delicious.

Southern Style Coleslaw by Yours Truly: 1 16 oz. bag pre-shredded coleslaw, 1 cup diced pickles, 2 tbsp. olive oil mayonnaise dressing, 2 tbsp. spicy brown mustard,  2 tbsp. ranch dressing. Using a rubber spatula, combine all ingredients in a large serving bowl. Chill in your refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour before serving.
