Spiced Apple Tart Smoothie

When one imagines a smoothie they usually see bright colored fruits, and taste sharply sweet or tart flavors. However, one should not forget to test out gentle, mysterious flavors when making smoothies. This Spiced Apple Tart Smoothie really has it all, the gentle familiarity of cinnamon, the hint of nutmeg, luscious creaminess, and the sweet goodness of apple. When I first made it I was surprised at just how much flavor could be produced through such simple ingredients, but hey, you never really know until you try! This breakfast recipe will definitely be a repeat in my book, and I would gladly make it for someone else, that’s how good it is. The cool thing about smoothies is that they give you protein, fruit, hydration, and energy! Not a bad combination if you ask me. Consider this smoothie as a last farewell to winter fruits and flavors, combined with the promise that spring is almost here!

The Ingredients: 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce (or 1/2 an apple, peeled and seeded), 1 container low-fat french vanilla yogurt, 1/2 banana, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 2/3 cup vanilla almond milk, 1/2 cup crushed ice, 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg.

Combine all of the ingredients in your blender or single-serve cup, and mix on high for one to two minutes or until fully combined. Pour the smoothie into a pretty glass, and enjoy!
