Christmas Crunch

Can you believe that it is only eight short days until Christmas? I can’t, good thing I’m almost done with my Christmas shopping….Considering that Christmas is close at hand, and that I haven’t posted any Christmas recipes, I decided to share a new family favorite with ya’ll. Christmas Crunch is the perfect addition to those cozy nights around the fire with your family, an excellent complement to your annual Christmas party with friends, or, a naughtily scrumptious snack just for you! Let me put it this way, my family’s idea of Christmas crunch is basically the popcorn version of puppy chow (or muddy buddies, etc.). All you need is chocolate, popcorn, candy, and your imagination! Here, I’ll let you girls in on a little secret, if there are any leftovers of this delicious delight, tuck some into your purse to enjoy while you finish (or start) your Christmas shopping (I may or may not have done this already). Here are some various opinions from my family on this dish (is this a dish or a dessert? or both?)

Queenbee: “Mmmm…this is really good!” El Gastronomo: “I love all these little snacks.” La Critico: “This is better than some things.” The Health Inspector: “Muddy Buddies are better.” Friar Tyst: “….crunch….crunch…so…good…”

The Ingredients: 12-13 cups cooked butter flavored popcorn, 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate M&M’s, 1/2 to 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 4 oz. bar white chocolate, 1 4 oz. bar 70% cacoa dark chocolate.

Pour the cooked popcorn into a very large serving bowl. Melt the white chocolate at 30 second intervals in your microwave, make sure to stir the chocolate to assist it in melting. When the chocolate is smooth, drizzle it evenly over the popcorn and toss the mixture vigorously with a pair of tongs. Now follow the same process for melting the dark chocolate. Drizzle the melted dark chocolate evenly over the popcorn and toss until just combined. Now add the M&M’s, chocolate chips, and whatever other candies you want. Toss gently to combine, serve immediately or let sit for one hour at room temperature to firm up slightly. Serves 12-14 people.

Yes these pictures are not the best, does it really matter? No. The brown stuff is chocolate and the red stuff is M&M’s.
